The Wedding Dress Woes

Does the idea of trying on millions of wedding dresses throw you into a panic attack? There are soooo many to choose from so how will you know which one will make you look like the stunning bride you’ve always dreamed of?  Grab your tape measure and read on!

The first thing you need to know is what your body type is. All body types are beautiful so learning yours will help you decide on ways to accentuate the parts you love while drawing attention away from areas you may not love. Take a measuring tape and measure the widest part of your shoulders, bust, and hips and then the smallest part of your waist. (Remember, your waist is not where your hip bones are, it is around or above your belly button.) Here are the four body types most women fall into:
Athletic- You will fall into this category if you all your measurements are roughly the same. An empire or a-line dress style will create curves by accentuating your narrowest part while the skirt will flow away to give the illusion of hips.
Inverted triangle- You will have this body type if your shoulders and bust are you widest part.
For this body type try on mermaid style dresses or ball gowns. Both of these styles accentuate a narrow waist and balance a wide shoulder or bust area with drama at the bottom.

Pear- If your hips are wider than your shoulders and bust then you have a pear shaped body.  If you’ve always dreamed of perfectly placed curves try out an empire or a-line dress. These dress styles have raised waistlines so the most narrow part of your waist will be featured while the skirt will hide wide hips.

Hourglass- If your hips and shoulders measure roughly the same and your waist is 25% narrower, then you have an hourglass body type. If you are lucky enough to have this body type, mermaid, ball gowns, and sheaths will all look good on you. Mermaid dresses bring attention to all your best features- your narrow waist, your bustline and your curvy hips. Ball gowns create a beautifully cinched waist. Sheath style dresses flow over your curves and create an elegant, confident look.
